A TAXING TIME FOR PETROL
05-July-2011
The Prime Minister is showing how desperate she is by playing childish games and avoiding any scrutiny through not revealing any details about the carbon tax.
The very tricky words about placing a carbon tax on petrol are exactly that.
The oil prospector will be subject to the carbon tax.
The oil extractor will be subject to the carbon tax.
The oil refiner will be subject to the carbon tax.
And, the oil transporters will be subject to a carbon tax.
The economics are clear – the price of petrol will inevitably go up. The increase in the costs due to the carbon tax will cascade through the supply chain and eventually it will lead to a price increase at the bowser.
And no one really believes the Prime Minister’s commitments about no carbon tax on petrol.
On 15 November 2010, the Prime Minister said, “the use of cars is a very considerable contributor to greenhouse gases. We want to make a difference to that”.
But now, when promoting the disastrous carbon tax, the Prime Minister says she won’t do anything to cut these emissions because she knows people “have got no choice but to jump in their cars to get places”.
Which of those statements is real, and which is fake?
The Prime Minister needs to grow up, front up, come into Parliament, do her job, sell her carbon tax and reveal the details before the end of the sitting week.
