INDUSTRY STEPS IN FOR LOBOTOMISED ZOMBIES

01-July-2011

In refusing to stand up for manufacturing businesses and local jobs by opposing the carbon tax, the inevitable has happened. Australian industries have joined forces to fill the vacuum left by sleeping Labor MPs as manufacturing businesses are being torn apart by anxieties surrounding the Gillard Government’s toxic carbon tax.

Labor members rely on blue collar manufacturing workers to put them in Parliament. Now they are drawing a parliamentary salary and have betrayed the people who elected them.

In a sector already under siege from Labor’s ineffectual policies which fail to protect Australian manufacturers from foreign dumping of cheap imports and unfavourable trading conditions, the carbon tax threatens to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

The coalition of key industry groups is calling itself the Australian Trade and Industry Alliance and its members include the Australian Food and Grocery Council, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Australian Coal Association, the Australian Logistics Council, the Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association and the Minerals Council of Australia.

Everyone knows the Gillard Government’s toxic carbon tax is going to drastically increase energy prices which will cascade through the economy presenting Australian workers with the double whammy of diminishing job security and upward pressure on the costs of living.

Labor is inflicting all of this pain for absolutely no gain in the reduction of global carbon dioxide emissions. Australian manufacturers will simply be forced to move offshore or worse still, the void will be filled by high polluting foreign substitutes, as the effects of the carbon tax reverse tariff kick in.

It’s time to bring the Prime Minister into the real world before she causes unilateral economic disarmament.

It’s time for Labor MPs to prevent Australian manufacturing from becoming a moonscape.

It’s time to axe the carbon tax.
