Howes Shaken from Carbon Con Trance

Paul Howes, AWU secretary, has been shaken out of his carbon con trance. His members and the Coalition have been telling him for months that the steel industry and supporting industry jobs will be exported under a carbon tax.

Until now, Mr Howes had joined former union boss Greg Combet in protecting one job, the Prime Minister’s job, at the expense of thousands of Australian jobs.

“Greg Combet has abandoned the union workers who put him into power,” Shadow Industry Minister Sophie Mirabella said.

“He has pointedly refused to answer questions about industry support and refused to commit that no jobs will be lost from the steel industry.

“Mr Combet and Ms Gillard need to follow Mr Howes’ march into the real world.

“They need to look Australian workers in the eye and promise that no Australian job will be exported because of their carbon tax,” Mrs Mirabella said.
