PM SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON PROBLEMS IN HER OWN BACKYARD

16-January-2012

With Labor’s waste and mismanagement adding $100 million a day to Australia’s already massive net debt, it’s high time Julia Gillard started to take responsibility for the Government’s relentless spending rather than deflecting through veiled criticism of economic management in some European countries.

The recent announcements of Labor’s additional funding to the car industry highlight the desperation of Ms Gillard and demoted former Cabinet Minister, Kim Carr. Not only have they avoided accountability by failing to tell the Australian public from where these funds are coming, they have failed to properly address the key issue of sustainability.

It doesn’t help the car industry when Labor breaks nearly $2 billion dollars of promises, then 12 months later crawls back with their collective tail between their legs with ill-conceived piecemeal plans. And let’s not forget the $46 million in carbon tax debts which will be forced upon the industry each and every year under Labor.

Today we discover that the additional newly promised car industry money hasn’t even been approved by Labor’s own Cabinet.

With Government debt forecast to be over $130 billion by midyear, by their own figures, Australia and the car industry would be better served with an affordable, sustainable and reliable plan.

Ms Gillard must explain where the additional car industry funding is coming from and why she didn’t take the proposal to Cabinet, something she has previously been critical of Kevin Rudd for.
