FOOD AND GROCERY INDUSTRY CONFIRM CARBON TAX TOXIC
14-June-2011
Australian food and grocery manufacturing companies confirm costs will significantly rise under the proposed Gillard Government carbon tax.
This supports the Coalition position that the carbon tax is a toxic tariff on Australian manufacturing.
Coca Cola Amatil Group General Manager, Terry Davis, was quoted in today’s Herald Sun:
"Any costs associated with a carbon tax would be passed on"
"A carbon tax is a discriminatory tax because it advantages imported goods over locally produced goods."
(Herald Sun, 14 June 2011, page 1)
The Australian Food and Grocery Council represent the largest sector of the Australian manufacturing industry, which employs almost 300,000 Australians.
Manufacturing workers in the food and grocery sector face the double whammy of job loss threats and significant increases in costs of living under the toxic proposed carbon tax.
All Australians will face significantly increased costs at the till in supermarkets and retail outlets.
There is a deafening silence from the Gillard Government on compensation to food and grocery industry participants, manufacturing workers and other affected employees.
Ms Gillard must guarantee that no Australian will:
1. Lose their job;
2. Pay more for food and groceries.
