Jobs Forum a way forward, unlike the Rudd approach
08-April-2009
The Coalition believes well paid, skilled and secure jobs are dependent on innovation and enterprise, along with low taxes and incentives that make it easy for businesses to invest in people, Federal Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella MP said today, who is hosting a Community Jobs forum in Wodonga.
“Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull has invited the people of Australia to join a conversation about jobs – how to create jobs, preserve jobs, enhance jobs, something we in the Coalition are very passion about and that’s differs greatly from the Australian Labor Party.”
Through the Jobs for Australia initiative, all Australians can now discuss their ideas and share their personal experiences in an online forum at: www.jobsforaustralia.com.
Mrs Mirabella said she was pleased to have her parliamentary colleague and friend, Dr Southcott, Shadow Minister for Employment Participation, Training and Sport here representing the Leader of the Opposition.
“Ensuring every Australian has the opportunity to work is a fundamental responsibility of Government, and one of the most important objectives of economic management,” Mrs Mirabella said.
“All we hear from the Rudd Government is blame shifting as they tell us jobs are being lost because of the global financial crisis. But Australia is not powerless. We can shape our own destiny.” Mrs Mirabella said.
Coalition members across the country are conducting community forums in their local areas to learn firsthand from Australians about their ideas for a stronger future.
“I look forward to holding a community forum today to hear the views of the North East business community, this is a tough time and we are here to support them. I want to hear their suggestions and ideas on how to create and preserve good jobs in the current economic climate,” Mrs. Mirabella said.
Dr Southcott, said he was excited to be on the border with local Member Sophie Mirabella to hear the concerns and aspirations of small business.
“In the Liberal Party we believe very strongly in empowering and promoting Australian small business.”
“I am very pleased to be here to listen to the concerns and ideas of the business community. Holding this forum with Sophie, a solid advocate for the area is a way forward in this uncertain time,” Dr Southcott said.
“I encourage everyone in our community to go to www.jobsforaustralia.com and participate in what is a great initiative to ensure we leave no stone unturned in our efforts to protect jobs and create new opportunities for Australians.” Dr Southcott said.
“The Coalition believes Australians are innovative, with a ‘can do’ attitude. Especially in these difficult times, we must look for new ways to strengthen our economy and build for the future,” Mrs Mirabella and Dr Southcott concluded.
