NATIONAL FLAG DAY
01-September-2011
Australian National Flag Day on 3 September marks the occasion in 1901 when then Australian National Flag was first flown.
The Australian National Flag has served Australia for over 100 years and is our paramount national symbol, signifying our nation’s history and proclaiming to the world our identify as a free and democratic society.
Federal Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella MP has encouraged locals in Wangaratta to celebrate National Flag Day by flying the Australian Flag this Saturday.
“It is a day to celebrate our national symboland proclaim our identity as a nation to the world. It is a symbol which signifies a country that is proud of its past and confident about its future,” said Mrs Mirabella.
“I encourage all locals to fly or display the National Flag proudly in their homes, businesses, schools and communities on this special day.
“We should all be very proud of our flag and what it stands for. It was designed more than a hundred years ago and has been flown proudly around the world as emblem of our nation and our people. It has been the symbol which our defence forces have fought under and we should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved,” Mrs Mirabella concluded.
