EASTER MESSAGE
20-April-2011
After our summer of natural disasters, I’m sure many people are looking forward to taking some much needed time off to reflect over the Easter break.
While Easter involves great family traditions, like Easter eggs and family feasts, the celebration is also a reminder to us that our sufferings, like those of Jesus so many years ago, are an opportunity for all of us all to put other’s needs above our own.
At a time when so much sad news fills the airwaves, the message of hope is more important than ever. The modern world presents us with many challenges and here in the North East, we are far from immune.
We have had the floods. The rising cost of living and the rapidly increasing pace of everyday life can leave many reeling. But in our struggles this year I have seen many acts of selflessness. Instead of ignoring the plight of others, people here help each other in difficult times.
Easter is an important time for Australian families and I think we should be glad that, even in the tough times, we live in a place full of people with big hearts who often put others ahead of themselves.
A Happy Easter to you all.
