SOLAR NORTH EAST PROGRAM A GREAT EXAMPLE OF DIRECT ACTION ON ENVIRONMENT

Sophie Mirabella MP, Federal Member for Indi has congratulated 7 North East Councils on the resounding success of the Solar North East program.
The program has attracted strong interest with more than 240 households and businesses across the North East registering for the bulk purchase solar scheme.
“This is a program that is already achieving results and I congratulate all of the Councils involved,” said Mrs Mirabella.
“The success of this program just goes to show that incentives are better than punishment when it comes to changing people’s behaviour and reducing C02 emissions. The North East Solar initiative is very similar to the Coalition’s solar roofs plan, which is part of our Direct Action Policy. These councils are taking direct action and it has been incredibly successful.
“The Coalition believes it better to provide incentives for the use of Green energy and new technology to reduce C02, rather than punish people through Labor’s Carbon Tax.
“I would hope that Ms Gillard could look at the success of a program like this and recognise that incentive based, direct action is far more effective than a job destroying Carbon Tax.”
“Here is a program that encourages investment in renewable energy and helps to employ local people. It’s grass-roots direct action at its best and I commend the efforts of everyone involved,” Mrs Mirabella concluded.
