BULLY BOY BURKE GOES AGAINST WILL OF THE PEOPLE
18-March-2011
Federal Environment Minister, Tony Burke has today displayed absolute arrogance and contempt for country Victoria, declaring he will force cattle grazers out of the high country by April 8.
The announcement comes only months after Victorians emphatically rejected State Labor’s policy and follows a Greens bill that seeks to ban Victorian alpine grazing.
“It’s pretty clear who’s calling the shots here,” said Sophie Mirabella MP, Federal Member for Indi.
“The Greens have put up a bill and Labor has adopted it without question. It’s a very concerning development and it’s one that has become all too familiar.
“Minister Burke represents an inner city seat in Sydney. He doesn’t have the slightest clue about the needs and concerns of country Victorians, and nor do The Greens.
“The Labor-Greens alliance may be in Government at the Federal Level, but both parties were comprehensively beaten at the Victorian election. It’s time they accepted the will of Victorians and stopped using bully tactics to push their own agenda,” Mrs Mirabella continued.
Mrs Mirabella says the Baillieu Government has a mandate to allow cattle grazers back into the high country and the Victorian Coalition are merely delivering on an election promise.
“Mr Burke should stop listening to The Greens and start listening to the Australian public. He should respect the Victorian voters and reverse his decision” Mrs Mirabella concluded.
