CARBON TAX ALREADY HURTING LOCAL JOBS

04-March-2011

Sophie Mirabella MP, Federal Member for Indi says Labor’s proposed Carbon Tax is already hurting local jobs.

For anyone doubting that a Carbon Tax will hurt local jobs, they should ask local manufacturers. The call follows recent comments by Bruck CEO, that a carbon tax adds pressures that may cause a freeze in the company’s growth.
“This is local evidence of real harm to local jobs and the local economy,” said Mrs Mirabella.
“Anyone claiming this tax won’t hurt jobs and send local business off shore is kidding themselves.
“I led a debate on a matter of public importance this Thursday in Parliament on the impact that the Carbon Tax will have on jobs and the Labor Party claimed I was exaggerating. Clearly the Labor Party is more interested in pandering to The Greens than caring about jobs and businesses in country Victoria and all around Australia.”
Leading the debate in Parliament on Thursday, Mrs Mirabella said “Labor has presided over sustained contractions in Australian manufacturing that have been the worst ever recorded” and that “more than 87,000 jobs have been lost in Australian manufacturing during that time.”
“It’s time for the Prime Minister to get her head out of the clouds and listen to the concerns of hard working Australians and the people employing them. She could start by visiting North East Victoria and visiting local manufacturers,” Mrs Mirabella concluded.
