FLOOD LEVY A BAD TAX FROM A WEAK GOVERNMENT

27-January-2011

Sophie Mirabella MP, Federal Member for Indi says she fully supports the rebuilding of flood damaged areas in Queensland and Victoria, but that it should be funded through budget cuts, not new taxes.

Mrs Mirabella said the new tax is an insult to all Australians and a slap in the face to all those who have already assisted in the flood effort.

“Labor will use any excuse to impose a new tax because they are addicted to spending and don’t have the guts to make the hard decisions,” Mrs Mirabella said.

“What Miss Gillard doesn’t understand is that Australians are struggling with the cost of living and simply cannot afford another new tax.

“People get very frustrated when Governments waste huge sums of money on overpriced school halls and pink bats, but hit you with a new tax because they can’t manage money.”
Mrs Mirabella said that people should brace themselves for more taxes in the future.

“This is the beginning of a string of taxes that Labor plans to introduce. Now it’s the flood tax, next it’s the carbon tax and then it’s the Mining tax.

“The Coalition identified $50 billion worth of savings at the last election, and Labor is too gutless to find $2 billion. It says a lot about their economic management credentials,” Mrs Mirabella concluded.
