The Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella, has added her voice to the question posed to the Independent member for New England, Tony Winsor, by his constituents.
The Tamworth Leader has posed the following question to Mr. Winsor:-
WE humbly suggest the time has come for Tony Windsor to tell the people of New England why a pledge by Julia Gillard to increase the size of Chaffey Dam is bullet proof, while an almost identical promise – made on September 3, 2007 by (the Nationals’) Mark Vaile – was an “election stunt"…
Mrs. Mirabella asked, “Where is his loyalty to his voters?”
“ I am in an electorate that is fighting for its agricultural survival because of the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s plan.”
Mr. Windsor has pooh paahed an increase in size of the Chaffey Dam, in the past, and now that the Labor Party has offered a similar inducement, it is a wonderful idea.
Have the needs of his electorate changed that much or has the Leopard revealed his real spots?
If the Gillard Labor Government wants to offer a similar option to the irrigators along the Ovens, I would welcome it with open arms.
Mrs. Mirabella said it blatantly obvious that Mr. Winsor has put his self serving interests ahead of those of his constituents and is now hoping to buy back favour.
“I believe that the people of New England are too smart to fall for this stunt and can see past his deception but I sincerely hope they get their dam while the farmers of the Indi Electorate look down the barrel of ruin as they have to lose 71% of their water to appease the Gillard Labor Government.”
