VETERANS GRANTS IN INDI

Veterans & Ex-service people in Indi, will benefit from the Saluting Their Service grant funding, Federal Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella said today.
Across Indi, two veteran organisations and one community driven tourism group will benefit from a total of just over $7,500 in Saluting Their Service grants.
Mrs. Mirabella said “Saluting their service grants highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service men and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations and promote appreciation and understanding of the role that those who have served, played in shaping the nation.”
Saluting Their Service provides opportunities for communities, organisations and individuals to take an active role in commemoration and to ensure that their service of today’s Australian Defence Force is properly recognised.
In Indi the three groups to receive funding in this round are: The Benalla RSL sub Branch, The Wodonga RSL Sub Branch and Wangaratta Regional Tourism Development.
I am pleased that funds are still available to assist veterans’ organisations in our community. However, I am concerned that funding cut backs at the Australian war Memorial, in particular, may jeopardise commemorations at a National level.
“The Australian War Memorial’s touring exhibition and school holiday programmes, as well as preparations for commemorating the Centenary of ANZAC, are at risk because of Labor’s reckless spending and budget cuts to the Australian War Memorial” said Mrs. Mirabella.
