NEW GUIDE ADDS TO PEOPLE SMUGGLERS INVITATION

The Gillard Labor government has effectively published a “How To Guide” for people smugglers by releasing official departmental guidelines on acceptable refugee claims
The Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella said this official Department of Immigration publication will do nothing but increase the number of boats heading for our shores.
This new guide almost provides boxes to be ticked to ensure asylum seekers act in accordance with the regulatory requirements.
Mrs. Mirabella said “Providing people smugglers with the information on how cases are assessed encourages false documents and information to be gathered before arrival. Armed with this information the due process of establishing refugee status is seriously compromised.”
“The record number of boats arriving on our shores is already straining resources and this guide will only stretch them further as Immigration officials will now have to determine what information is genuine and what is the result of people smugglers coaching their clients”, Mrs. Mirabella said.
The Gillard government is continuing it form in immigration policy failing by moving from one poor decision to another. The asylum freeze promised during the election has failed, this guideline will fail.
To date there have been 30 boats containing 1513 people arrive since the August election, when will the government learn and when will the illegal influx stop?
