MIRABELLA CONGRATULATES COMMUNITY CHILDCARE PROJECT

Sophie Mirabella, Federal Member for Indi, has congratulated Mansfield resident Kim Stoney on standing by the courage of her convictions and developing a childcare centre and indoor pool in Mansfield.
“Kim has taken the initiative and started the process on this project. I’m sure it’s heartening to many locals that one of their own has stepped in to deliver a much needed service for local families,” Mrs Mirabella said.
“I have already spoken to Kim about it, congratulated her and offered my full support.
“Kim has stepped in where the Federal Government has copped out by canning a planned 222 childcare centres they had previously promised.
“During my time as Shadow Minister for Early Childhood, I warned that this government didn’t care about pre-schoolers or families and that they would renege on their promise to build childcare centres. Unfortunately, I have been proven right.
“In January 2009 – almost 18 months ago – I specifically requested the Deputy Prime Minister work with the Victorian Government to find a solution. The best I could get was a gobbledigook reply from the Acting Education Minister.
“Kim’s ability to recognise the true needs of her community far outweighs the ability of this short sighted Labor government to provide an essential service to a rural community.”
