COALITION’S DIRECT ACTION PLAN VS LABOR’S SHELVED CLIMATE POLICY
27-April-2010
Federal Member for Indi, Sophie Mirabella, said the Rudd Labor Government’s backflip on the Emissions Trading Scheme by shelving it until at least 2012 was proof they had no real plan for climate change.
“Unlike the Coalition, which has a direct action plan which is real and ready to go, the Rudd Labor Government is happy to sit back for another two to three years while it watches the polls,” Mrs Mirabella said.
“Two years ago, this issue was the greatest moral challenge of our time. Only last September, Mr Rudd said to delay an ETS would be reckless and irresponsible. Now, it has been relegated to post-election planning.
“If Mr Rudd’s carbon trading scheme was so great, he would take it to the people. But instead, he has decided to put it on the shelf until a more politically expedient time.
“If this isn’t absolute proof of the correctness of the stand I, and others in the Coalition, took late last year, nothing is.
“The Liberal Party isn’t a party of climate change deniers. It is a party of action which is solid, concrete and sustainable.
“The Coalition’s Direct Action Plan on Climate Change is solid, understandable and workable, unlike the Labor plan, which is to wheel the issue around to suit the political numbers game.”
