MIRABELLA: ABOUT TIME TELSTRA SCRAPPED ACCOUNT FEE
04-November-2009
Sophie Mirabella MP, Federal Member for Indi, has welcomed Telstra’s announcement that they have scrapped the $2.20 administration fee charged to people who pay their accounts in person or by mail at a Telstra Shop or Australia Post outlet.
“Since Telstra’s announcement of their increased fees for paying bills in August, I have been contacted by a number of outraged constituents,” Mrs Mirabella said, “I immediately called on Telstra to reconsider the introduction of this administration fee and I am happy they have now redressed the problem.”
The announcement means that people who were charged the $2.20 administration fee for each bill payment made by mail or in person at a Telstra Shop or Australia Post outlet from 14 September 2009, will be able to have this fee refunded.
“I join many locals in celebrating this victory for common sense.”
“It goes to show that big companies often need to be pushed to stand up for fairness. Telstra have learnt that in encouraging people to make electronic payments they should not punish those that may not have access to such account payment methods,” Mrs Mirabella said.
Mrs Mirabella encourages every one in the North East to check their Telstra bills and seek to have the administration fee refunded.
