Saluting their Services Grant for Chiltern great news for the community: Sophie

27-February-2009

Sophie Mirabella MP, the Federal Liberal Member for Indi today had the pleasure in visiting the Chiltern Athenaeum Museum to announce their successful application for a “Saluting their Service” grant.

The Chiltern Athenaeum received $3000.

“It was indeed a wonderful opportunity and a great honour to be able to meet with the Chiltern Athenaeum Trust Members and discuss with them their plans to refurbish the World War 1 Soldiers Honour Roll,” Mrs Mirabella said.

“The Athenaeum plans to personalise the Honour Roll into a cabinet with a photograph and brief information card about each of the 350 World War 1 Soldiers from the Chiltern and surrounding area.”

“The work and effort of Ian Charton, Rex Fuge and Charlie Summerfield must be commended. They are working extraordinarily hard for this respected organisation.”

“It is no doubt that this new personalised photographic honour roll cabinet will be valued so much by the Chiltern Community and visitors to the area,” Mrs Mirabella said.

“The “Saluting Their Service” grants program was proudly introduced by the Howard Government. It is an initiative that the former Coalition Government is very proud of.

“The Program aims to assist organisations in honouring the sacrifice and service of Australia’s servicemen and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations.”

“The new display area memorial will enhance the honour roll and make us have an even greater appreciation and understanding of the role that those who have served played in shaping our nation.”

“This new personalised photographic honour roll will be a popular and unique addition to the already treasured Chiltern Athenaeum,” Mrs Mirabella said.

“I would like to thank the Trust Members, Mr Charlton, Mr Fuge and Mr Summerfield who will be constructing the new display area for the photographic honour roll cabinet. I look forward to seeing the finished product,” Mrs Mirabella concluded.
