Rudd Walking Away from Hospitals Promise

06-May-2009

Sophie Mirabella MP, Federal Member for Indi, has today criticised the Rudd Government for what she says is ‘Kevin Rudd abandoning his pre-election promise to fix the nations public hospitals by 2009’.

The is classic Labor, say and do anything to get elected and not follow through on the commitment once getting into Government.

Whilst Kevin Rudd is shacked up in the lodge, there are many patients and families around the country in public hospitals that are struggling with lack of doctors and nurses and no funding from incompetent State Labor Governments.

Kevin Rudd, when Opposition Leader in 2007, made an election pledge to fix the nations hospitals by 2009. He hasn’t done that and now Health Minister Nicloa Roxon has been left red-faced and embarrassed after Labor changed its promise to ‘assess’ the hospitals by next month.

“This just proves Mr Rudd is not a man of his word. His office lief when asked had the PM abused an air stewardess and his office lief. This is yet another broken promise and a case of the prime Minister not telling the truth.”

‘What is totally alarming is the Minister for Health Nicola Roxon said on meet the press that “things are looking up”. This comment from the Minister goes against what everyone else is saying about hospitals in the country after decades of State Labor Governments neglecting health.

“It has gone from Rudd and Labor promising to fix hospitals, to improve hospitals and now in classic Rudd style, “assess” the hospitals. Its time for action from the Government in health not hollow talk,” Mrs Mirabella said.

“The Rudd Government obviously believes their State Labor colleagues are doing a great job in running public hospitals and there is absolutely no need for the Federal Government to intervene, well after receiving calls for concerned local residents for months, I disagree,” Mrs Mirabella said

“Kevin Rudd is walking away from his promise,” Mrs Mirabella concluded.
